Best fashion movies of all time

Hi everybody ! I am more than happy to publish my first article. And what's best to begin than talking about my top fashion movies of all time ?

Dior and I

Dior and I documentary by Frederic Tcheng in 2014
Date of creation: 2014
 Director: Frederic Tcheng

Dior and I is a documentary recounting the beginning of Raf Simons, the Belgian fashion designer, at Dior. Indeed, he has been Dior’s artistic director from 2012 to 2015. Raf Simons has a challenge, he has 8 weeks to launch its first haute couture collection and haute couture show.
Whether you are passionate about fashion or just curious about discovering more about the giant fashion industry Dior, this really interesting documentary will enable you to have a privileged look at its history and behind-the-scenes. In this documentary, there’s no fairy-tale or selling dreams, it is really about the everyday life at Dior : pressure, tension and moments of happiness.

The devil wears Prada

The devil wears Prada fashion movie with Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep
Date of creation: 2006
Director: David Frankel

This is surely the most famous movie dealing with the fashion industry. This movie is about a freshly graduated women, Andy, dreaming of being a journalist, that is hired as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of a high fashion magazine. Without any attraction for the fashion field, Andy will discover a rough world that might ruin her life.
The casting is really amazing, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep are perfect in their respective roles. I saw this movie at least a hundred times and I cannot get enough of it. If you are looking for a funny and uncomplicated movie for your girl’s night in, go for it, you will not be disappointed.

The legacy of Alexander McQueen

The legacy of Alexander McQueen documentary by Loïc Prigent in 2015
Date of creation: 2015
 Director: Loïc Prigent

If you’re a bit interesting in fashion, you surely know about the famous designer Alexander McQueen that died in February 2010. Through this documentary you will understand about the English genius designer and its controversial personality by discovering the key moments of its career and life. With his eccentricity he has revolutionized fashion and haute couture and has, throughout his career, never stopped shocking which makes it, according to me, a fashion legend. Wonderful images, archives and testimonies are making it real and emotional.
Don’t hesitate to watch other Loïc Prigent’s documentaries, most of them are really great !

Fashion scandals

Fashion scandals documentary by Loïc Prigent in 2016
Date of creation: 2016
Director: Loïc Prigent

Fashion is all about scandal, right? This is what this documentary is all about. Fashion is evolving through scandals and polemics as the Galliano or Naomi Campbell affaires, all of them are different and examined in this documentary with humour and anecdotes. As Loic Prigent says “If you ask fashion to be reasonable, et it will spit in your face a new unusual trend”. If you want to develop your fashion culture or understand more about the turbulent history of fashion, this is the best!

The September issue

The September issue documentary by R.J Cutler in 2009
Date of creation: 2009
 Director: R.J Cutler

Who never heard about Vogue? The famous American magazine renowned all around the world. The documentary follows its editor-in-head Anna Wintour and creative director Grace Coddington during the production of the September 2007 issue. The September Vogue is actually the most important of the year. Despite all the critiques about its personality that is depicted as aggressive, malicious and vindictive, Anna Wintour is for me one of the most powerful women in the world and a fashion icon. Honestly, I don’t really care about its personality as long as she is talented and managing Vogue well. Her global influence is no longer to prove. I’ve also loved discovering Grace Coddington that I didn’t know and for good reason she is sort of the backroom woman. I really admired the special way she and Anna understand each other.
If you love reading Vogue magazines, discovering the behind-the-scenes could be really interesting to discover the truth behind the pictures.

I hope you enjoyed this article and that you're looking forward to seeing all these movies ! Let me know which ones you've seen and what did you think about it. Also, if you have other movie ideas, don't hesitate to share it, I'll be happy to read it !
